Terms of business
How a quote becomes a job, what the guarantee covers, and how disputes are handled.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are between you and Oxford Roofing and Maintenance LTD, registered in England and Wales under company number 12424206, registered office 7 Priors Lane, Hinton Waldrist, Faringdon, SN7 8RX.
They apply to any roofing or property maintenance work we quote for or carry out, unless we agree something different in writing.
2. Quotations and what is included
A quotation is free and carries no obligation. It sets out the scope of work, the materials, the price and an estimated timescale, and it stays valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise.
A quotation becomes a contract when you accept it — in writing, by email, or by asking us to start — and we confirm the date.
If we open up the roof and find something the survey could not reasonably have revealed — failed battens, a rotten valley, a chimney that needs rebuilding — we will stop, tell you what we have found, and quote for the extra work before continuing. We do not add charges you have not agreed.
3. Price, deposits and payment
Prices include labour and materials as described in the quotation. Where scaffolding, skip hire or specialist access is required, it is itemised so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Unless the quotation says otherwise, prices exclude VAT — confirm VAT registration status.
- We accept bank transfer, card and cheque.
- For most repair work, payment is due on completion, once you are satisfied with the work.
- Larger projects may be split into stage payments, agreed in writing before work begins.
deposit terms — confirm whether a deposit is taken
4. The workmanship guarantee
We guarantee our workmanship, and you receive the guarantee in writing when the job is finished. Material warranties from the manufacturer are passed on to you, and they usually run longer than the workmanship cover.
The guarantee period is not stated here on purpose. The current website gives three different answers for the same work — 12 months, 10 years, and 10–20 years. Publishing a figure we cannot stand behind would be worse than publishing none. guarantee length and scope, in writing
Once confirmed, this section will state:
- how long the workmanship guarantee lasts;
- what it covers and, specifically, what it excludes;
- whether it is insurance-backed;
- the manufacturer warranty periods for EPDM, GRP, slate and tile systems; and
- how to make a claim under it.
The guarantee does not cover damage from storms, subsidence, third-party work, or a lack of reasonable maintenance.
5. Changing your mind
Where a contract is agreed away from our premises — typically at your home, or over the phone — you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of agreeing it, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Tell us in writing at info@oxfordroofingandmaintenance.co.uk or by post to the registered office. If work has already started at your written request, you may be charged for the work done and materials already ordered.
This is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which require work to be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and materials to be of satisfactory quality.
6. Access, weather and your responsibilities
Please clear the working area, move vehicles, and let us know about anything we cannot see — a fragile roof, asbestos, a shared chimney, a party wall, or an alarm. If we cannot get safe access on the agreed date we may need to reschedule.
Roofing is weather-dependent. Heavy rain, high wind and frost can stop work for safety reasons. We will always make the property watertight before leaving the site, and we will tell you the same day if the forecast is going to delay things.
7. If something goes wrong
Tell us first — 07468 429000 or info@oxfordroofingandmaintenance.co.uk. We will inspect the work and put things right, in line with the guarantee.
written complaints procedure — if you have one, it goes here, including what happens if we cannot resolve it between us.
Work carried out through Checkatrade may also be covered by the £1,000 Checkatrade guarantee, subject to their terms.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales.
